All About Tribal Tattoo Art and It's History

tribal art articleThere are plenty of tribal tattoos in the world. They can include celestial images, such as stars and suns. They can include tribal zodiac images or religious symbols. They can also be armband tattoos. Out of all the body art, tribal tattoo designs are the most intricate and creative. They are also the most symbolic and have a lot of meaning behind them.

Just about every ancient culture and tribe has had some body art that was unique to them and their way of living. Tribal art can also represent the spiritual and religious beliefs of a particular culture. No matter what your heritage is, your ancestors undoubtedly had some sort of tribal art and designs. You can display your heritage proudly with tribal tattoo art.

There are many varieties of this type of art, and each and every form is rather creative.  You need to consider the meanings behind them before you make your decision.  You also need to think about the placement of your tattoo(s).  In ancient times, body art was used to either mark a person as a member of a particular class or group, or to express religious and even magical beliefs.  Thus, tribal tattoos are a great means of expressing yourself.  However, you should respect the statement that your tattoo conveys.

Celestial images such as suns and stars

Some of the earliest forms of tribal tattooing thousands of years ago featured the sun.  This is because the sun represented the element of fire, gods, and life itself.  Suns and stars tattoos can vary in detail and size, making them a great choice for just about any area of your body.  The back and shoulders (right below the neck) are the most popular location for this type of tribal tattoo.   Also, a creative twist on armband tattoos can be a chain of stars that wraps around your ankle or foot, with a larger star or sun image closing the chain just below the big toe.

Zodiac Symbols

In ancient times, zodiac was used as a celestial coordinate system of sorts.  Its ties with astrology have been fascinating cultures for thousands of years.  As such, Zodiac tribal tattoos have always been pretty popular.  If you want to select one, make sure you choose the sign of your birth.  Understanding the meaning behind your own sign and its common traits and strengths will enable you to create a unique design that is special to you.

Religious Symbols

When it comes to tribal tattoos, most of them had some sort of religious or spiritual meaning behind them.  You should take the time to study the symbols of ancient shamanic religious and tribal tattooing practices.  Whether your ancestors were Native American, African, Celtic, Anglo Saxon, Asian, Samoan, etc, you need to find a symbol or image that is meaningful.

Armband tattoos

The armband is probably the most popular tribal tattoo.  Although you can make yours unique and personal.  Whether you want to go with forearm tribal tattoos or something else, you can incorporate barbed wire, knot work, flames, and so forth.  You can also use any tribal elements and symbols that you want in order to create your own special design.
